When my daughter started high school a few weeks ago, I wrote a heartfelt letter to her that was published on Detroit Mom. The process of writing it was a gift to me—it gave me space to reflect on my own journey, and what I wish I had known at her age.
What surprised me wasn’t just the emotions I felt while writing it, but the flood of messages I received afterward. So many of you shared that reading it brought up memories of your own high school years and how you wished you had support for your emotions and nervous system back then. I SO resonate with that.
And honestly, that’s one of the biggest reasons why I do this work today—because so many of us still need those unique tools.
Here’s the good news, it’s never too late. You can still show up for that younger version of you. You can grieve what you didn’t receive and learn to support yourself now through gentle nervous system regulation.
Which is why I’m sharing the video above.
It’s a gentle nervous system sequence designed to help you process big emotions in real time. By attending to, validating, and exploring those emotions now with supportive tools, you’re not only regulating your nervous system, you’re also supporting that younger version of yourself who didn’t have access to this kind of care.
Every time you practice, you’re building resilience both for who you are today and who you were back then.
Here’s to healing both past and present with compassion,
💗 Kelly
