I’ve been having all the feels this week. My daughter started high school on Monday, and honestly, it feels like we just dropped her off at preschool. How in the world are we dropping her off at high school?!
It’s a huge shift for her, moving from a tiny school (her 8th grade class had just 4 kids) into a class of 114. There have already been a few days where she got lost and couldn’t find her classes, but each time she was able to find support and eventually find her footing again.
And speaking of finding our footing, that is why I am sharing a simple grounding exercise this week. It is based on a Brain Gym® movement that requires no equipment and can be done anywhere, standing or seated. It is quick, easy, and accessible for students, educators, parents, and really anyone who needs extra support for the brain-body connection.
What makes this one especially powerful is layering in visual exercises. Vision plays a huge role in how our nervous system regulates, but today’s world presents endless opportunities for visual overstimulation, especially from screens, that can easily push us toward dysregulation. By pairing Brain Gym® with intentional eye movements, this exercise helps calm the system, restore balance, and build steadiness and focus in a way that is simple yet highly effective.
