The Franklin Method is a cutting-edge movement technique that combines imagery, experiential anatomy and reconditioning movement. The power of using one’s mind has been known for thousands of years. Today, a variety of fields tap into the mind-body connection with amazing results, including health practitioners, psychologists, athletes and dancers. This allows you to experience the benefits of the mind-body connection through imagery, movement and touch.
Imagery: The key body/mind skill: Our imagery will provide your brain with the feedback it needs to create improved ease of movement, flexibility and strength. Imagine you are in a dark room when a light is turned on. Suddenly you can move freely and avoid collision. Imagery is turning the light on in your body.
Experiential Anatomy: The revolutionary aspect of the Franklin Method approach to anatomy is that it is based on evolution, taking into account the changes and challenges the body has experienced and the solutions it developed. Principles from biomechanics are introduced, for example the bone rhythms, how the bones actually turn and maneuver in movement. We will also learn how our organs support movements, flexibility and alignment. Touch is used to increase awareness. The goal is to harmonize the underlying systems into a whole from where health and well being flows.
Reconditioning Movement: Your body was designed to move and movement is the great elixir of life. Where there is lack of movement, life becomes stagnant and stale. Thus the Franklin Method employs a rich variety of movement ranging from everyday activity (walking, sitting, standing) to dynamic stretching, Thera-Bands®, Franklin balls, dance, rhythm and improvisation — all to stimulate the ongoing dialog of life in a body.
