Dr. Saunders began her career as a master’s level psychologist in 1987. During her work with thousands of clients and students in emotional and intellectual health, she observed the equal importance of physical health in the quality of life of her clients. Physical health issues such as chronic headaches, addiction, fatigue, biochemical mood-swings, poor diet and even other issues like work schedule adjustments, can affect our lives just as much as emotional events like the death of a loved one, divorce, childhood trauma and unemployment. This led Dr. Saunders to pursue doctoral level coursework at Miami University and University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She began public speaking in health education and disease prevention and then continued on to complete her doctoral degree in natural health from Clayton College in 1998.

Dr. Saunders is featured along with other prominent scientists, physicians, athletes and Hollywood actors as a “Famous Vegetarian” on www.famousveggie.com. Her current projects include the improvement of school nutritional lunch programs and development of the casomorphin addiction theory. She has also served as a Certified Prevention Consultant and a Certified Addictions Counselor in the state of Michigan.

Her physician-patient resource book, The Vegan Diet as Chronic Disease Prevention, was published by Lantern Books of New York in 2003 and has received critical acclaim. Now in its third printing, her book has been awarded a publisher’s bestseller. Her work has been featured in several newspapers, e-zines, magazines and radio, and her advice column, “Dear Dr. Kerrie” is regularly featured in VegNews magazine, with a readership of over 100,000. Dr. Saunders has premiered multimedia presentations throughout the continental United States, Hawaii and Canada, and she is a member of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
